Problems on another Allegiant flight

Viewers are reacting to the latest Allegiant flight to make an emergency landing at FYI.  If you haven't heard yet, an Allegiant jet took off from Fresno Sunday night, then had to turn around minutes later after losing an engine to mechanical failure.  The plane landed safely.  Nobody was hurt.  Another Allegiant jet was flown in, and most, but not all of the passengers, flew into Vegas around 2:00am. (Some passengers refused to get on the second jet, others chose to drive to Vegas instead.)

This comes just a few weeks after a different Allegiant jet, on a flight from Vegas to Fresno, had to make an emergency landing at McCarran Airport, after losing an engine.  I blogged extensively about that first incident, even though it received little on-air coverage by any of the Fresno television stations.  (Why did I spend so much time blogging about it?  Because many people on the flight told us - they thought they were going to die.)

Here are a couple of e-mails we've received so far about this latest incident:

I wrote in a couple of weeks ago in regards to an Allegiant Airplane that my grandson was on.

While trying to return to Fresno from Las Vegas, one of the engines blew up in air, it was horrifying and little was on the news about it. Now I see there has been another incident while going to Las Vegas....another engine blew up.

Why, again I say, WHY is there no investigation from FAA or even local officials on this airline???

I wonder how many other planes with Alegiant Air have had planes with engines blowing up???

Is everyone waiting for one to crash before they do anything about it? I'd feel a lot better if they would check things out NOW, not when it is too late!

I am suppose to fly to Vegas in October for a convention......Now I don't want to go.

Please do some research on this, don't wait until it's too late, please!

And from another viewer:

This is crazy. We were on the April 26th flight... I cannot believe it happened again....

Click here to watch video from FYI, and to hear reaction from passengers who were on Sunday night's flight.

Allegiant points out that all of their planes are designed to fly safely with only one engine.  And the fact that both jets landed safely with only one engine, proves that to be true.

Allegiant says it is pure coincidence, that both problems they've had this year with engine mechanical failure, happened on flights between Fresno and Vegas.  Stay with CBS47 for updates on this story, today at noon, 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00.

By the way, passengers who were on the latest Allegiant flight can call 702-505-8888, if they want to talk about their experience to anyone in the company's customer relations department.

Are you still confident in this airline?

Personally?  Yes.  Both planes landed safely, with no one injured.  It just appears to be sheer coincidence that both engine malfunctions, happened on Fresno/Vegas flights, within weeks of each other.  Now, if there's a THIRD lost engine... I'll begin to wonder.

I would feel safe. They both landed safely, but I do think that the company needs to check up on all of their engines immediately.
