Is this a great movie? No. You won't be hearing about this one at Oscar time.
But is it a good movie? Yes!
The director KNOWS his target audience: women and young girls. Women who are into romance novels. Women who've read the entire "Twilight" series - probably more than once! Women/girls who dream and fantasize about falling in love with someone (something?) dark and brooding and sexy.

This is a "chick flick" from beginning to end, no doubt about it. My guess is that most guys are going to hate this movie (not enough action), while most ladies will love it (lots of romance and hunky bare-chested werewolves!).
I'm one of those rare guys who's not afraid to admit that I enjoyed "New Moon." In fact, I liked it even more than the first "Twilight" movie. I can honestly say - I didn't want "New Moon" to end. (The last line of the movie is absolutely perfect, though! You'll know what I mean, once you hear it.)
I loved how the audience (about 95% female) reacted at the sneak preview I was at Wednesday night at Regal Manchester. The lights dim before the movie... all the women scream! The movie starts... more squeals of delight! The first time Edward appears... sighs and sexy moans. Jacob yanking his shirt off, revealing his sculpted six-pack... really loud screams! The rest of the wolf pack strutting their stuff - shirtless ... I thought some girls were going to throw themselves right through the screen!

I was worried that the werewolves wouldn't look real enough during their computer-generated transformations, but I was impressed with how those scenes ended up. You can see every hair on the wolves' bodies moving.
Yes, the acting is cheesy in places. Yes, there were a couple of times where I exploded into laughter at an inappropriate moment. But overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the two hours. Dakota Fanning, who has only a very small role in the film, is wickedly evil during her few minutes on-screen. Those red eyes!

So, how long til "Eclipse" comes out???
